Authentication

Workato uses OAuth 2.0 and API key-based authentication for its platform APIs. Access tokens can be managed via the Developer Portal.

Key Integration Points

  • Workato API Platform: RESTful APIs to trigger recipes, manage connections, query job data, and administer your workspace programmatically.
  • MCP Gateway: Exposes enterprise tools and data sources as MCP-compliant endpoints consumable by AI agents (Claude, GPT-4, Copilot, etc.).
  • Workato SDK: Build fully custom connectors using Ruby-based DSL with support for OAuth, REST, SOAP, and custom auth schemes.
  • Embedded iPaaS: White-label Workato's integration runtime inside your SaaS product via the Workato Embedded APIs.

Developer Resources

  • Developer Portal & Sandbox: Isolated environment for building and testing recipes and connectors without affecting production.
  • MCP CLI: Command-line tooling to scaffold and deploy MCP-compatible agent tools.
  • Webhooks & Event Triggers: Real-time event ingestion from external systems via HTTPS endpoints.
  • Agent Studio: Visual orchestration layer for chaining multiple AI agents, tools, and data sources into autonomous workflows.
