SciSpace is built on a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, combining a large indexed corpus of 200M+ scholarly articles with LLM-based generation (powered by OpenAI models) to deliver contextually grounded answers. The platform exposes a public API that allows developers to integrate paper search, metadata retrieval, and AI-assisted Q&A capabilities into their own applications. It supports PDF ingestion, full-text indexing, semantic search, and citation graph traversal. SciSpace also provides a Chrome extension for in-browser paper reading, and its backend infrastructure handles document parsing, chunking, and embedding for accurate context retrieval.
